The Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations came into force on Friday 1st December 2018.

The Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations are available on the NZ Legislation website.

You may need to obtain a compliance certificate from a compliance certifier if you handle or store hazardous substances.

A compliance certificate can be required for people, sites or equipment.   Compliance certificates are issued by WorkSafe authorised Compliance Certifiers. A compliance certifier will tell you what information they need before they can issue a compliance certificate.

HSNO is administered by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). HSWA is administered by WorkSafe NZ.

There are 63 HSNO Codes of Practice that relate to safe practices. These are being replaced by Safe Work Instruments (SWIs).

Compliance with the SWI is treated as compliance with the regulation.
